What else we did on our winter break

On New Year's morn, we loaded up the Bakfiets and the Xtra

so that we could do this:

Then we loaded up again so we could head out to lunch.

It was actually a great day to take the bikes. The streets were already plowed but not many drivers were out on the roads. It was New Year's morning after all and I suspect many more people were recovering from late night reverly, maybe even... sleeping in. We, on the other hand, need to get out of the house on all days early enough that the boys don't start tap dancing on the ceilings. Good thing we aren't in to late night reverly, huh? (Just when did we get old and boring? I swear we used to be cool.)

We had to be a bit strategic about distributing the weight of the fellas and gear because we needed to head up a relatively steep hill to get to our sledding destination. Hence, we put one boy and three sleds in the Bakfiets (less weight) and two guys on the snapdeck of the Xtra (more weight). P took on the challenge of riding the monster Baks up the hill and I rode the Xtra. I was prepared to get off and push the last bit of the hill if necessary, but I am delighted to report that both P and I managed to pedal the whole way there. Of course, for the boys' first twelve sledding runs or so, we were still breathing heavily, recovering.

The boy-sled-bike configuration changed up at the end of two hours sledding. We had tired fellas who wanted to hang in the cargo box so the sleds got strapped to the Xtra, one guy climbed aboard, and off we cruised. Sledding alone would have been fun, but biking to sledding and then biking to lunch and home was that much more fun.

nice. I keep getting reports of people having fun inthe snow. I have barely left the house since 12:30AM Jan 1. ( actually I left only once to drive my in laws+ suitcases and my kids to train station so they could go to airport and fly to FL.)

I keep thinking about venturing outside via bike ( esp today when my car was covered in snow and I hate snow driving, but I didn't have anywhere to go. I instead threw the children out in the back yard to play in the snow and stayed inside.

Your ride looks wonderful and I wish I had you round the corner to motivate me to get out and go sledding... I probably would have.

hmm- only in laws got out to train station to FL. Sadly kids came home with me. I say sadly b/c that would be a lot of fun if they did take a little vaca without me. I'd be out on the town for sure.

Nice! I still love the robot decals, and the sleds on Radish look great. Kudos on making it out in the snow - last year I rode the MADSEN in some snow (over ice, I think), and it felt very sketchy. Looking forward to trying it again this year if we get more snow ...
